sweet dreamers – 7 mindful moments

When the world may be getting a little too much, you might need to take a step back so we have put together some mindful moment tips to help you keep calm and carry on.

Be present

Be present in what you are doing. If negative thoughts fill your mind, revert to the present moment. Close your eyes and think about what can you hear? What can you smell? Open your eyes and keep your mind searching for new things to see. You’ll soon find mind slowing down and bringing you back to a level state.

Breathe

Notice your breathing. Focus on your breathing only, breathe in for 4, hold for 2 and then out for 4. Repeat as necessary.

Small changes

Small changes lead to big differences. Rome wasn’t built in a day and this is true for your mental space. Even just making the decision to make time for mindful techniques is a great start.

Take note

Notice when your mind starts to spiral. Does it happen when you look at social media? Does it happen when you watch the news? Are the evenings when you are less busy a heightened time? These types of triggers could be key to keeping your mind under control. Keep a diary and start to take note of any patterns, you can then start to plan avoiding or working differently at these times.

Take 5

In a world where we are constantly going somewhere, we may well just need to have 5 minutes alone. Where possible take yourself off to a quiet place and practice the be present and breathing tips above.

Move

Move as much as you can or want to. Go for a run or stretch your body. A little movement can go a long way, try it and you’ll see.

Be kind to yourself

Our expectations of ourselves are often extremely high. And although aspiration is great, let go of perfect and the things you can’t control, the happiest people don’t have the best of everything, they make the best of everything.
